And I think that's what he rammed into our heads, we're going to have to earn it, because my family was like a middle class family in a small town. So, he really forced us to be disciplined and work hard, and just to remain positive, and believe that we could be and have anything we wanted in life. I believed it and still do.

ILM: I read that you don't have a specific formula to writing music, sometimes lyrics and melody first, sometimes it evolves from the piano… You wrote a song with Boyz II Men on the spot in front of cameras for a competition... how was that experience?

BRIAN: That was fun. I couldn't believe it was happening to me. Because I was like this kid from a small town and all of a sudden there was this Hollywood film crew in my front yard and in my house. And then they flew me to Philidelphia and I recorded with Boyz II Men. It was the craziest experience and it all happened so quickly. I felt like I really got to showcase myself as an accomplished songwriter and singer and piano player, because I actually played the piano for the guys while we were writing a song on the spot. It was really cool; it was kind of like a dream. I couldn't believe it was actually happening, but it was really cool. They were so encouraging, and really positive, so it was a good experience.
